What is virtual reality and how does it work?

Today we want to tell you what virtual reality is and how it works because it is time to enter a world that will fascinate you, it is fun, exciting, and different from everything you know, are you ready?

Just as it happened with computers and later with mobile devices, the arrival of virtual reality is one of the most important technological changes of recent times. But what is this fascinating technology all about? Join us and let's discover together what virtual reality is all about.

What is virtual reality?

Virtual reality is a computer interface that envelops the user in an immersive 3D environment, beyond a simple screen. Through a computer simulation, images and content attempt to approximate the real sensations of our senses (touch, hearing, sight).

How does virtual reality work and what are its types?

Now, to go a little deeper into the topics of what virtual reality is and how it works, the next thing you should know is that there are 2 types of virtual reality:

  1. Stationary Virtual Reality

Here, the content generator is a PC. Thus, the user needs to be at a certain distance from the computer in order to have his viewer (wired or wireless) and receive the simulation. Although the user's freedom of movement is reduced, the simulation graphics are much more realistic.

  2. Mobile Virtual Reality

The content generator is a mobile processor inside the viewer itself. It generates the 3D images and receives information directly from the viewer's sensors. Here there are no cables, but the graphics are less realistic due to the limitations of the processor.

How does Virtual Reality work?

Virtual reality works on the basic principle of our perception of the environment and understanding of the scene. For a more immersive and realistic experience, virtual reality viewers are the best option. They block out the outside world and display a three-dimensional world to create the simulation.

Currently, there are many VR viewer options and they are mostly composed of internal technologies, which carry out processes that help keep the user immersed within the experience, such as:

  • Head tracking:

Using gyroscopes, accelerometers, and space sensors; the visor knows where the user's face is pointing. Thus, it generates the image knowing where you are looking. It is very important that the delay of these sensors is less than 50 milliseconds, otherwise the user may feel disoriented or even dizzy.

  • Eye tracking

Using infrared sensors inside the viewfinder, the viewfinder can detect the movement of your eyes individually. This generates a better immersion by increasing the quality of the simulation, focusing the images directly in the direction of our sight and not just the head.

  • Body movement sensors

These allow the simulation to know where we stand and whether we are moving within a space in the simulation.

  • Motion controls

They include markers for the viewer to identify them as our hands within the VR experience.

What are the benefits of virtual reality?

This technology is a way to creatively reach the right target audience and reach your consumer's usage. Among its benefits are:

  • Increased customer engagement: a realistic 3D product experience is created so that customers can visually analyze all features and align them with their needs.

  • Customer retention: customers differentiate between brands that offer VR-enabled technology and brands that engage in push marketing tactics.

  • Product designs: VR software combines various counterparts of a design sketch in a virtual space to mix and match which vector goes where.

  • ROI optimization: as you optimize each stage of the value chain, customers and offers start flowing in.

  • Cost reduction: you can implement all types of training, performance appraisals and evaluation meetings in a virtual environment.
